Mr. Mandel’s career has included representation of clients in state and federal courts and administrative agencies involving a wide variety of business-related litigation.  He has represented publicly-traded companies and commercial lenders, family-owned and small businesses, and individuals.  Mr. Mandel has handled matters involving business fraud and other misconduct, partnership/shareholder disputes, non-compete, trade secret and unfair competition claims, employment discrimination, actions for breach of contract, real estate-related litigation, government investigations, and actions brought under the False Claims Act.

Mr. Mandel’s experience includes work on the following matters:

  • representation of a publicly-traded automotive supplier in a fraud and breach of contract case arising out of a $120 million stock purchase agreement
  • defense of a Tier 1 automotive supplier in an action claiming more than $40 million for alleged breach of contract
  • representation of a real estate development and property management company in a $26 million insurance coverage dispute
  • defense of a manufacturer/importer against a multi-million dollar claim for alleged tortious interference with contract
  • defense of an Original Equipment Manufacturer in regional litigation involving automobile dealer franchising and employment disputes
  • defense of publicly-traded manufacturer in connection with a multi-million dollar claim for unpaid sales representative commissions
  • representation of the founder and former President of large, family-owned construction contractor in an action for shareholder oppression and breach of fiduciary duty
  • securities and financial services litigation involving broker-dealer relationships, commodities and futures contracts, auction rate securities, alleged market manipulation and other issues
  • representation of a construction subcontractor in connection with a regulatory investigation conducted by the United Stated Department of Transportation
  • defense of an aeronautical map manufacturer in multi-district federal court litigation arising out of the tragic crash of a United States Air Force aircraft carrying a diplomatic mission that included former Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown

After law school, Mr. Mandel clerked on a complex litigation docket for Judge Rufus G. King, III of the District of Columbia Superior Court.  In 1995, he joined the litigation group of one of the largest law firms in Washington, D.C.  In 1999, Mr. Mandel returned to Metropolitan Detroit, where he was raised, and joined the litigation practice of a well-regarded business law firm.  Mr. Mandel was elected a shareholder in the firm in 2004.  In 2009, Mr. Mandel established The Law Offices Of Jay Y. Mandel, PLLC.
